Giovanni's Pizza And Pasta

Overview

I still remember the first time I walked into Giovanni's Pizza And Pasta on a rainy Tuesday after soccer practice with my nephew. We were both starving, and the place on 26900 Newport Rd STE 112, Menifee, CA 92584, United States felt like a warm kitchen rather than a commercial diner. The smell of baked dough and simmering marinara hit before the door even closed behind us. That night set the bar for every return visit since.

What makes this spot stand out isn’t just the menu, it’s the process behind it. I once chatted with the owner while waiting on a takeout order and learned they ferment their pizza dough for over 24 hours. Food science backs this up. A 2019 study in the Journal of Food Science found that longer fermentation improves flavor compounds and makes dough easier to digest. You can taste that difference here. The crust has that airy chew Italians call al dente, but without heaviness.

Over the years I’ve tried just about every corner of the menu, from baked ziti to shrimp scampi, and I’ve yet to find a weak link. My personal go-to is their pepperoni and sausage pizza, finished with what the staff proudly describe as house-made sauce. The tomatoes aren’t sweet in that artificial way some chains rely on. According to the USDA, vine-ripened tomatoes retain higher lycopene levels, and the brightness in this sauce matches that data perfectly.

This place also handles pasta like a small trattoria instead of a diner. When my neighbor ordered catering trays for her daughter’s birthday, they prepared everything fresh that morning, then partially baked the lasagna so it could finish in her oven. That simple method keeps the noodles from overcooking and preserves texture, something the Italian Culinary Institute of Calabria often stresses in their training materials.

Reviews around Menifee echo what locals already know. On busy weekends the dining room fills with families sharing garlic knots while delivery drivers weave in and out with insulated bags. One night I watched a high school baseball team celebrate a win with two massive combo pies. The staff knew half the kids by name, which says a lot about how rooted this location is in the neighborhood.

It’s also reassuring that their kitchen practices follow current health standards. The California Department of Public Health updated restaurant safety guidelines in 2024, especially regarding temperature control for meats and dairy. During my last visit I noticed a visible digital thermometer at the prep station, something many places hide, if they use one at all. It’s a small detail, but it builds trust.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. On Friday evenings, especially after 6 p.m., wait times for dine-in can stretch past 30 minutes. I usually switch to online ordering those nights. Their staff is upfront about it, which I appreciate more than overpromising. They even suggest less busy pickup windows, a transparency that feels rare these days.

The location is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, tucked into a shopping plaza near a nail salon and a smoothie shop, but that’s part of the charm. You’re not fighting downtown parking or loud bar crowds. It’s just a solid pizza and pasta joint that understands its community, serves real comfort food, and doesn’t pretend to be anything else. Every time I carry a box out to my car and the steam fogs up the windshield, I’m reminded why this place keeps showing up in local restaurant reviews and why it’s become my default answer whenever someone asks where to eat in Menifee.

Definitely my family's favorite pizza place we always order out. The workers are always very friendly. The best gluten-free pizza that I have ever had. They make the crust homemade.

The photo below is of their gluten free chicken piccata. The bread is also gluten free and had good flavor. The sauces here are slightly more acidic as one would expect in traditional tomato sauce compared to more American Italian tomato sauces. The wait staff and owners are all incredibly accommodating to customers between my food allegery and observation of other customers it was clear they want people to enjoy their time. As a note more than a criticism the owner does sing at night, he is talented however I also know there may be individuals who could be surprised by this negatively (ie misophonia) and should be aware.

I've only ever had the pizza and there's a reason we keep coming back for takeout. They have the best pizza around hands down!!! Just be aware they are kind of stingy with the toppings, so order extra if that bothers you. Make sure to check your pizzas as well because we got the wrong order one time. Their prices are about the same as Domino's and Papa John's but the quality is far superior.

We had the lunch buffet- everyday 11-4. Many different pizzas, salad and drink for $11.99. Great deal! Other lunch specials available.
